I DECIDE TO BELIEVE WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT ME by Kathleen Keith-Gillon

We are spiritual beings. Although we usually say “body, soul and spirit” the order is incorrect. We are spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body.

God is spirit. He communicates with man’s spirit, not with man’s soul. Our soul is: emotions, intellect and will. So if we try to communicate with God with our soul we don’t get the answers we long for. We plead for what we want, what we think is best, all based on what we see and experience. We are praying with our soul and as we now see, God doesn’t communicate with our soul, but with our spirit. Our “soul prayers” just go up as far as the ceiling.

So the question is: how can I pray with my spirit rather than my soul? After all John 4:24 says God is a Spirit and His worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth. Oh how we long to really communicate with God our Heavenly Father, the Almighty God!

Can we?

We can!

Let’s look at Hebrews 4:12. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

This is the answer. There is something that can separate my soul from my spirit enabling me to pray with my spirit. It is a sword; it is the Word of God! So now I won’t talk to God about what I see around me, what I hear with my natural ears, what I want, what I think is best. God’s Word penetrates and separates my soul, putting it quietly aside. God’s Word will enable me to move to a higher level where I no longer adjust my thinking to human truth, but begin to believe God’s truth.

There is an enormous difference between human truth and God’s truth. As we learn to declare God’s truth over our particular situation, the intense light of the Word of God shines into the darkness and reveals the lies we have believed. If we are lonely, we discover that we are never alone because God’s Word says He will never leave us.  If we suffer from depression we find that God’s Word gives us the words to express our feelings to God. We can admit that though we sit in darkness the Lord will be our light; that we need not be dismayed because He is our God. When we feel unloved, insecure and rejected we can learn to pray God’s truth and discover that His love is unfailing, He loves unconditionally, and even if our parents have rejected us (human truth, because it really did happen) the Lord receives us. It is what God says about the situation that counts. What He says, is what it is.

It is not what we think about ourselves but what God’s Word says about us; it is not what we feel about ourselves but what God’s Word declares we are; it is not what we see with our human eyes but what God’s Word shows us.

Each time we are heavy hearted or distressed because of a situation or a lie of Satan, we can declare aloud GOD’S TRUTH. Print out the following declarations to have on hand in those difficult moments:

THANK YOU LORD FOR THE RIGHT TO BE YOUR CHILD. I CONFESS THAT I AM A CHILD OF GOD BECAUSE I HAVE RECEIVED YOU AND HAVE BELIEVED IN YOUR NAME.  (JOHN 1:12)

LORD, I CONFESS WITH MY MOUTH THAT JESUS IS LORD. I BELIEVE IN MY HEART THAT GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. I TESTIFY THAT I AM SAVED. I AM JUSTIFIED BECAUSE I HAVE BELIEVED IN MY HEART AND SAVED BECAUSE I CONFESS WITH MY MOUTH. (ROMANS 10:9)

LORD, MY BODY IS YOUR TEMPLE BECAUSE THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN ME. YOU BOUGHT ME WITH THE HIGHEST PRICE IN THE UNIVERSE YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD. TEACH ME TO HONOUR YOU WITH MY BODY. (1 COR 6:19, 20)

THANK YOU LORD THAT YOU CHOSE ME BEFORE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD TO BE HOLY AND BLAMELESS IN YOUR SIGHT. THANK YOU THAT IT IS YOUR BLOOD THAT MAKES ME HOLY. I DECLARE THAT I AM HOLY. (EPHESIANS 1:4)

THANK YOU LORD, FOR RESCUING ME FROM THE DOMINION OF DARKNESS. I DECLARE THAT SATAN HAS NO POWER OVER ME. I BELONG TO THE KINGDOM OF JESUS CHRIST FOR EVER. (COL 1:13)

THANK YOU LORD, THAT YOU CAME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL. I PROCLAIM THAT ALL THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL IN MY LIFE ARE DESTROYED. (1 JOHN 3:8)

THANK YOU GOD, FOR FORGIVING ALL MY SINS, AND FOR CANCELLING THE WRITTEN CODE THAT WAS AGAINST ME (COL 2:13, 14). YOU HAVE JUSTIFIED ME AND THERE IS NOBODY WHO CAN CONDEMN ME (ROMANS 8: 33)

LORD, I TAKE THE VICTORY THAT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THROUGH THE LORD JESUS CHRIST (1 COR 15. 57). I AM MORE THAN A CONQUEROR! (ROMANS 8:37)

LORD, I KNOW THE TRUTH AND THAT TRUTH SETS ME FREE (JUAN 8:32). I WILL STAND FIRM IN THIS FREEDOM AND I WILL NOT BE BURDENED BY A YOKE OF SLAVERY. (GAL 5:1)

LORD, I TESTIFY THAT I AM IN CHRIST, AND THAT I AM A NEW CREATURE. I RENOUNCE ALL THAT HAS PASSED AND DECLARE THAT IN CHRIST ALL THINGS ARE NEW. (2 COR 5:17)

LORD, THANK YOU FOR THE POWERFUL WEAPONS THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME. IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS I TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT TO MAKE IT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST, IN ORDER TO DEMOLISH ALL THE ENEMY’S STRONGHOLDS. (2 COR 10: 3, 4, 5) I PROCLAIM THAT I HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST (1 COR 2:16)
